If you’ve walked or driven by the Francisco Park site, you’ve seen a lot of action lately at Hyde and Bay Streets.
We are making good progress on planting! Ninety five percent of the native plants are now in the ground. Native plants don’t like to stay in pots, and have shown their satisfaction with a growth spurt. Butterflies are visiting as well!
The Larsen/Lam Children’s Playground has seen a lot of action, too, with two slides completed, and one smaller slide for the younger children now finished. Most of the play equipment installation is in place, as we excitedly await the final piece, a climbing structure coming from Europe! The delivery is scheduled for early November. The overall size of the Playground is surprisingly large with emphasis always on a magical space for the youngest visitors to climb and explore.
The lumber has arrived and we are starting to build planting boxes in the Maria Manetti Shrem Community Garden.
The park’s central, expansive and beautiful lawn will be planted with sod grown in the Central Valley. We are excited and patiently await the sod to adapt into its new park environment in time for the park opening.
Francisco Park is a gift for San Francisco and all of us! We can’t wait to take down the fence and welcome you into a brand new park, the realization of a dream you shared and supported. It required years of effort by many people who wanted to open the abandoned reservoir for all to enjoy!
